Sibley County hosted GFW students last week for their annual Student Government Day.
Students were paired with mentors who work in the various agencies. Students experienced tours and presentations during the morning session which include a presentation from the Sheriff and a jail tour. They also got to take a tour of the courthouse from the County Administrator with stops at the Assessor's and Recorder's offices. They attended presentations from the Public Health Director, got an overview of Elections from the County Auditor, and spent time with Public Works which includes a tour of county vehicles.
In the afternoon students met with the judge, and participated in a mock trial led by the former county attorney. After the trial, the county commissioners helped students participate in a mock county board meeting.
Thank you to all the county officials and employees to take the day and show our students everything that goes into local government. It was a great experience for the students!

Teachers at GFW Middle School and High School have been shifting to using inquiry cycles in their Professional Learning Communities to better meet student needs. Inquiry cycles allow teachers to focus on a specific area for improvement and work together to find strategies that support student growth. These ongoing conversations throughout the year lead to instructional adjustments when needed. Having a clear focus in the cycle also supports staying on track and consistently measuring student progress!
